5th Annual Play for the Cure JDRF Tournament - Adult Results

2012-06-12

JDRF (BHi Welland) - Adult

The 5th Annual Play for the Cure JDRF Ball Hockey Tournament's Adult Event has concluded

The 4th leg of the All Ontario Cup (AOC) Men's Open program took place this past weekend at BHi Welland.

The tournament saw some great (tight fought) games in the Open Division. Both the Niagara North Stars and the Niagara Terrorists were able to squeak out one goal victories in their respective Semi Final match-ups to once again meet up in the final. The final saw the Terrorists jump out to an early 3-0 first period lead, only to see the North Stars do what they do, and that is fight back to make a game of it. The North Stars were able to close the game to 4-3 game in the 3rd with just over 3 minutes left to play. Unfortunately for them, the time just wasn't enough and the Terrorists were able to claim their 3rd victory of the 2012 All Ontario Cup (AOC).

The Co-ed division was a challenge that had two teams establish themselves right off the hop as the leaders in the division. The Beastie Boys & B****es and Prospects each finished the round robin with identical 2-0-1 records (including a 1-1 tie when they met each other). They were able to solidify their repeat match-up with semi final victories. The final game was an extremely tight match-up as could be expected. The BB&B were able to hold on to a 1st period lead and only at the very end of the game did they extend their lead to 2-0.

Congratulations to both the Niagara Terrorists and Beastie Boys & B****es on their tournament victories. Both teams will be receiving sublimated jerseys as their tournament prizes. The Niagara Terrorists were able to increase their lead in the AOC standings to 25 points with a critical win versus the North Stars. However, this is far from out of reach for the North Stars. The 2012 AOC finish is going to be exciting as both teams appear to be separating themselves from the pack, but not from one another.
